Courtney Bascom

REGISTERED DIETITIAN NUTRITIONIST (RDN)

Always with an interest in nutrition, food (especially frosting!) and cooking, Courtney decided to study nutrition and dietetics and pursue a career as a Registered Dietitian.

Having grown up in Charlottesville, Courtney was overjoyed to move back to her hometown to complete a 1,200-hour Dietetic Internship at The University of Virginia Health System. After passing the Commission on Dietetic Registration board exam and earning the credential of Registered Dietitian, Courtney worked for several years at the UVA Health System in clinical settings including transplant clinic and oncology. She gained invaluable experience as a clinical dietitian and enjoyed the interdisciplinary approach to patient care.

After several years of inpatient and clinic work at UVAHS, Courtney sought a position at an eating disorder treatment center. She worked with clients at the center providing partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient levels of care. In the role, she rendered individualized nutrition counseling and care to individuals with eating disorders.

In 2021, Courtney opened her own outpatient nutrition counseling practice, Courtney Bascom Nutrition. In this role Courtney provides nutrition counseling and support to clients struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating or who want to become intuitive eaters.

When Courtney is not seeing nutrition clients, she is spending time with her husband, three young children and her rowdy golden retriever.

  • Courtney understood me in a way I have never experienced.

I had always wished to get to a point in my life where I wasn't thinking about food 24/7 and using it as punishment or emotional comfort, instead of nourishment or it being a way to spend time with others. Courtney understood me in a way I have never experienced and that was such a good feeling. She has incredible insight into the challenges of eating disorders; and helped me slowly push myself to shift my beliefs I had held around food for 20 years. I am blessed to have met her and would recommend anyone struggling with a negative relationship with food to make an appointment with her.
